Brown warns of 'darkest moment'

Mr Brown said there was a humanitarian crisis in Gaza

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said the crisis in Gaza is the "darkest moment yet for the Middle East".

He said he was "hopeful" the basis for an immediate ceasefire could be found and called for borders to be opened under international supervision.

The whole world was affected, he said, and humanitarian aid must get to Gaza.

On Tuesday UN officials said at least 30 people died and 55 were injured when Israeli artillery shells landed outside a UN-run school in Gaza.
